    cypress....is it really that safe????????
recently, on another forum, someone asked about the blends of cypress. most cypress bought at home improvment stores are a mix of pine and cypress. i was told by a breeder here in florida to use no float cypress. he told me that is what he uses and its double milled so the chunks are smaller.

i recently emailed the company, after seeing that thread, and asked if it was a mix. they told me that the mix varies from bag to bag. it is a mix of pine and cypress and ranges from 60%-80%.

so, how bad is this? and if you use mulch, what mulch are you using and are you positive it is not a mix?

At petco or petsmart they sell the T-rex cypress mulch(which is what I use) and it's double milled so its finer. That mulch is actually made for snakes so it's all good.

If you have a feed store near by you should be able to get pure cypress in different mulch sizes.

I can not comment on the pine/cypress mix never used it, I have seen the conversation go both ways about it.

Just incase people don't read posts above them.. I'll state again. The t-rex cypress mulch from like petco, petsmart is fine. It doesn't have any kind of pine, it's 100% cypress mulch, it's double milled.

    The bag looks like this:

I wish that stuff was cheaper, Neal! Great thread Lucas, i do have experience with "blend" cypress mulch, i use it in a mixture of top soil, cypress, and sphagnum moss, so far i havent had any problems, and pothos loves to root against the large pieces of cypress, it also breaks up the soil a bit to let air in, but i would like to know how dangerous that percentage of pine is in the "blended cypress".

I use the terrarium moss from PetCo.

Mad cheap, tons of it and keeps the humidity perfect with very little attention required... not that it keeps me from checking every hour anyway, but if I wanted to stop, I could. Really.:gj:
