Question about breeding.......

Does it matter which morph the female is when breeding? I have noticed that some morph females are almost double the price compared to the males. Is it because they grow larger or do they have their role in breeding?

For example female pastel x male spider = bumble bee. a female spider x male pastel would produce the same correct or am I missing something here? Why the price hike in females?

Females are the ones that produce the clutches. Yes a Female spider x male pastel would produce bees as well. The thing with girls though is it takes a long time to make them breedable. Males can usually breed after their first year, but females take 2 years or 1500 grams before they can breed. Given the most hatchlings are ~50-80 gms a piece you can see how that is a lot of work to raise a female up to breeding size. Markus Jayne had a male breed as early as 4.5 months.

I understand it takes females longer to make breedable but not the price hike in some female morphs.

Which ones specifically? I would guess that a female that's a proven breeder would get a price hike because she is guaranteed to get you a return on your investment.

I was looking at baby pastels and spiders about ~100 grams and noticed the price hike between the males and females. Seen this with other morphs too.

Are you saying some females won't breed for whatever reason?

No Im saying females that haven proven themselves as breeders might be a little cheaper than proven breeders, but overall more expensive than their male counterparts. I dont know the exact reason why, these are just my speculations. I know Ive seen breedable male pastels for like 150 and breedable female pastels for 600 and up.

I believe the price hike may also be because they are more desired.... a good lineup of females are likely to be paired with one or two males. say you have a male spider; to be most efficient in breeding, multiple females(such as a pastel, lesser, and pinstripe) will be best in achieving a greater number of clutches rather than buying a male for each female - more females= more clutches= better investment lol. Just my theory that seems to make sense to me.

Females are more desirable to have from a breeding standpoint.

If you have 5 females and 1 male you get 5 clutches. If you have 1 female and 5 males you get 1 clutch.

Therefore people want more females as apposed to males and breeders can charge a little more.
