GTP eye color

This might be a silly question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. :oops:

Is there a way to predict what color eyes a neonate will have as an adult? I see adults with various shades of red, yellow, silver, etc eyes, but neonates' eyes just blend in with their coloring. Does the locale determine eye color? Or the color of the neonate? Do you just have to guess by what the parents look like? I've always been curious about this!

Its a pretty good question actually, ive been looking through my old photos and ive noticed that basically if they have lines going horizontally through the eye following the pattern on the face, it will stick around. Otherwise its really up in the air with what the eyes will end up looking like. Again, great question i hope more chondro folk will take a look at thier animals and old photos, and post thier findings.

ive been thinking about this sence the question was asked. i looked through my chondro book and i can only guess that it is random. if you look at the pictures of the adults, they seem to be either light or dark reguardless of what color neo it was.

maybe more will chime in though.

I think it's dependent on the individual as much as the neo color. A lot of yellow neos hold yellow eye pigment. Many reds hold a pink hue. Most canaries I've seen have dark eyes or gray. Some hold yellow. Green trees have such a drastic change I think predicting the adult look is as hard as guessing adult eye color. Even two normal looking parents can have amazing looking offspring (ask Brandon about his tri-colors.) I have some that still have the horizontal line, and others that do not. So much has been learned in the past few years about the green tree python, but so much is still a mystery. The genetics of these guys are complex to me and the punnet square does not apply to them (that's strictly my opinion.) It's a very good question. I think you should defiantly post it on the Morelia Viridis forum. Get some big names in there who really have great info and experience.

What I have noticed with my chondros the eyes change and there is not way to till what they will be till grown. kinda like there color change.
