Please help me figure out if this fasting is normal.
I know I've mentioned this before. But I want to know from all you breeders out there:
If you have snakes that are approaching breeding weight,
1. Do they go through long periods of not eating?
2. How long does this last?
3. What months of the year does this happen?
Caspie has been fasting for 3 months now, and it's driving me nuts. Especially since I really would like to bump her over 1500g within the next year for breeding. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal boy-crazy female behavior... or if there's something wrong. She's only lost 35 grams from February to June (she is now 1382 grams). Please help ease my mind!! :salute:
Re: Please help me figure out if this fasting is normal.
I'm no expert at this, but, she might be in breed mode. Throw a male in with her. If she is over 1200 she is most deffinately mature.

Oh man, I really want to! I've got a really gorgeous 700g yellowbelly boyfriend for her.
In addition to my above question... what do ya'll think about pairing her up? It'll be my first time breeding, but I've done the research, and I've just been waiting on Caspie to get big enough, really...
Re: Please help me figure out if this fasting is normal.
I think she should be fine to breed at her weight and the male is also breeding size thing you have to consider is the incubator do you have one ready can you get one do you have the money to get one?

If I breed now, I would immediately start preparing an incubator. I already have it planned out in my head. Herpstat + flexwatt + cooler + hatchrite/vermiculite = :gj:

If you throw a male in now you should be fine, You don't need to jump on out and get the incubator ready and fired up quite yet. I started my pairings in December and I JUST got my first clutch on Saturday.
Re: Please help me figure out if this fasting is normal.
i've noticed that some of my males will start fasting only after they start breeding and most of my females usually start a fast just before they ovulate.
my bps that i dont pair usually do not fast during the breeding season.
sometimes bps just decide on their own to fast for whatever reason; health related or otherwise. if you are trying to get your girl up to weight then maybe she is fasting due to possible overfeeding.

I am curious about one thing however....how old is this female?

She is about 3 years old (an 06). I don't know her exact age because I bought her at a pet store.
The male I am pairing her with is an 07, he is almost exactly 2 years old.

Well she is definetly old enough. I say DO IT
