Thermostat query

I changed the setup I had and inserted the thermostat probe between the heat mat and the tank and it is not functioning as it should.

Before it used to switch on and off every few minutes (which i guess is the correct way), now it's taking a lot of time to go on and off and the temperature fluctuates more in dangerous levels (both up and down).

Is it possible that since the thermostat probe is 'wedged' between the heat mat and the tank and is fit in tightly it is not giving accurate readings?

should i try to elevate the tank a few more millimeters so that the probe is a little less tight?

How long have you gave it to regulate itself?

Where you have it is usually the recommended placement.

I agree. It might just be taking a little bit to regulate. I have mine in the same place and haven't run into any problems.

and do you know which part of the probe actually senses the heat? Is it just the tip or the whole part?

You just have it sandwiched between the heat pad and the tank correct?

Thats where it should be.

They usually measure temps towards the tip of them, but thats just my experience. All manufacturers will be different as well as variances within some of the manufacturers product.

What are you using to measure your temps?

What kind of thermostat is it?

the thermostat is Komodo ( i think it's only found in Europe)

and to check temps i'm using a Temp Gun.

How big are your temp swings?

It's an on/off thermostat so a little play in temps will have to be acceptable.
