We rescued an Iggy, can anyone help with the sex?
Hi I just wanted to share a pic of the Iggy we rescued. The man who had him didn't know diddly about him! So we have no idea how old s/he is or if it is male or female. He is in pretty good shape except for some shedding problems on his spines. Most of them are broken off from being constricted with all that skin. Mom and I have been soaking him/her and have gotten most off. We see the herp vet next week, but our regular vet agreed to see him/her just for a once over. He had to cauterize one toe because the man who had her yanked the nail off getting it out to show my Dad.

I'm no expert, but that looks like a male to me. :)

Hmmm. Dorsal spines are short, femoral pores are small, head looks more streamlined from the pictures. But, there are very large subtympanic scales, and it looks like, but I can't really tell, there may be fat bumps above the eyes. Without a look at the vent, I can't be sure, but I'll guess female.

Spines are short because most broke off due to bad shed. That, the overall size, and the subtympanic scales are why I say male. :D But without seeing the vent it can just be speculated.

I would also have to say female. femoral spores , head shape looks like my 4.5ft girl Alice. here are a couple pics of her so you can see the resemblance

Shawn, Alice is awesome! She looks about the same size as ours. We have been calling our Agnes because the general thought has been "girl" but if it turns out to be a he I guess we will change it to Angus lol.

Agnes looks great also lets just hope for your sake she keeps her gentle attitude . Alice was doing great until I picked up a male for a friend of mine and Alice lets just say has been a little difficult ever since. by the way Alice got her name from the land of the lost . not the movie but the 1973-1975 TV series.
