help!!, eye problem

Hi, I just noticed that one of my snakes eyes is looking funny. It looks like the eye cap was left on from the last shed. just a little crinkle in it but otherwise clear and normal looking.
Anyway i tried to rub it off gently and no luck, then I tried to use some tweazers and gently pull it off. It would not come. Now I am wondering if it is something different??? maybe it is not from the last shed but a more serious problem?? any ideas?? What should I do? thanks

Possibly dehydrated?

Leave it alone. You are apt to do far more damage messing with it. One retained spectacle isn't a big deal - certainly not big enough to go poking around his eye with a pair of tweezers.......

If it's a retained cap, it should be fine until the next shed. However, if it's a dent or crinkle due to lack of humidity, up it and it will go away.

If you think it's a more serious problem, take the animal to a vet.

ok thanks yea im just going to leave it alone and see what it looks like in the next few days.

Make sure the humidity is 60-70% and theres water in the water bowl. :gj:

Put fragrance free skin moisturizer on it. It will rehydrate it and help it come off. I just did it to two snakes last week.

You want to make sure its fragrance free to avoid any alergic reaction. I keep one in my snake room.

I had a rescue years ago that came in with retained eyecaps and was told this trick and it worked like a charm. You could soak her too but most snakes wont put their heads under water for very long.

I would use the lotion for a couple of days and if it dont fall off then soak her in warm(89) water, NOT HOT or cold water, for a few hours.

What if it's not a retained eyecap?

Unless the OP is 100% sure this a retained cap and not something else, he shouldn't be doing anything with the eye until he actually identifies that there IS a problem.

If it isnt a retained eyecap than moisturizer wont hurt and would still help rehydrate a wrinkled eye.
