Rat Breeding care Question

I am gonna to start a rat colony, I have begun building me a rack for the rats but I have a question about care. I have a room off of my garage, It has no AC in it but It never really gets all that hot inside of it. I was wondering If that would be an ok spot to have the rack or would it be a bad idea with no AC? I really don't want to keep them in the house, I'm afraid they would stink. I have a fan hanging from the ceiling that circulates air and normal summer time temps here are low to mid 90's. Thanks for any help.

Also here is a picture of my setup if this helps. The door behind the rack is the room they will be staying in.

You could always run an AC duct into that room. The thermostat would still shut off the AC according to the house temp.

I am betting it won't be long before they chew through those tubs.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that over a certain temp they won't produce. I'd find a way to get cool air in there with them, or move them to a cooler spot.

I may have found a great solution....It seems that the people who lived here before me covered a air duct up in that room....I got under the house to see how hard it would be to run some AC and Heat in there but there is a duct running right up to the floor but it seems to have been covered up with Plywood.

I would be a lil worried about them chewing thru the tubs, those tubs have indentions and raised areas in them. If its enough for them to start chewing on, it wont take but about 20 minutes and you will have an empty tub!!!

If you wanna use some type of clear tub, it needs to be completely smooth on the inside. As far as TEMPS go, rats breed in the wild all the time without the confort of an A/C.... if you put them in the garage, and it doesnt make you sweat while you are in there... you would probably be ok.
A couple exhaust fans.... one pulling in and one pushing out would prolly be a good idea also. Just an opinion! LOL

absolutely right!!! you can google it, rats are a little more tolerent to the temps than mice are, just make sure the air is circulating!!!!

new racks will use these (cheaper, better quality)

worst case scenario

angle a box fan directly in front of the rack so the air is focused on the top of the rack. Should lower temps unless exceed 100

humidity is more of a factor than anything else is btw.
