Reptile Basics Hides

Well, as much as I hate to admit it, my DIY hides are not working as well as I hoped. The spray paint fumes haven't dissipated after over a week, so I don't want to put them in the tank. I like the more realistic hides, but I have a feeling this is too big for my 1200g female Exo Terra large cave.

I was thinking about getting two of the medium size hides from Reptile Basics. Does anyone have a similar sized snake in this size cave?

I know a lot of people here own and swear by the Reptile Basics hides. Why? Are they easy to clean? Can the snake move them easily? At first I didn't like the completely unrealistic look of them, but it's starting to grow on me. These could be a good option especially if they are better and easier to clean than rock style hides.

I like them just fine. They can get moved around but if you're using substrate you can build up a little mound and remove the stuff in the center so that it is a bit raised up. The edges will dig into the substrate and make it more stable.

Granted, my girl is a bit bigger but they seem to be pretty private and it's always good to not have to keep buying new items as the snake grows.

I have a bunch of them. RBI hides are all I use.

I'd say, go ahead and get the large hide from reptile basics. Your girl will out grow the medium hide pretty quick.
I've got several of reptile basics' hides in several of the sizes and have nothing bad to say about them.
One other less expensive route: Go to walmart and see if they have the black tubs in their tub section. I've bought some of these and trimmed a couple inches off and made a cave shaped entrance. They work good and only cost about $2.

I really like the RBI hides, too. I use them for the babies and juveniles. Once they outgrow the mediums, I use kitty litter pans. Just flip them over and cut an appropriate sized hole. And they only cost a couple bucks apiece.

I've got a 2200g adult who uses the RBI large hides. I don't know how he manages to get himself in there. Usually they are about 1/4 to 1/2 off the floor. He almost wears them like a turtle...LOL. I figured they were too small so I went and spent like $100 for two of those Zilla jumbo rock hides. They were roughly the same size inside as the RBI, but they were taller, had a large opening and weighed about 20 lbs each. The snake apparently didn't like them. All the sudden he started hiding his head in the water bowl. So, after a week I put the RBI's back in. they are lighter, and yes, way easier to clean....

I use the RBI hides and they are great. Very easy to clean and the snakes seem to really like them. Most of my snakes use the medium hides (adult corn, adult gopher, two juvenile BP's). I do not use a hide for my 1400g girl because she is in my RBI rack and doesn't really use them anyways.

If you do get large hides and they are too big at the moment, you can try stuffing them with some substrate or newspaper so the snake feels more comfortable using them.

I would go with the large hide.My 800g fits snug in the medium RBI.

How can the large even fit into a 20L tank? The hide is over 13 inches long, and the tank is 12. I wouldn't be able to rotate the hide either.
