Does the color of the rodent matter?
My male was off feed for a few months now. Well he finally ate today. I have always tried with all white mice but today I got one that was white and brown. It was a little smaller then usual but I wanted to see if it would work. So do you think he ate because it was the different color or because he was ready to eat.? Thanks Jeff.

I don't think the color matters, but you will get some people on here that will swear that their snake only eats either white or black mice. So who's to say they are wrong?

That is why I was asking. He was started on the white mice. This is the first time I offered a different colored mice. So I wasn't sure if it just so happened to work out this way or if it was because of the color.

My snakes will eat any rats or mice regardless of the color.

He probably ate it because it was a little smaller and MAYBE because of the color. My BP refused all white rats until he got a black and white one in front of him and he killlllled it. But he's back to eating whatever so I dont know. But my pastel wouldnt eat rats of any size until I gave him an adult mouse which HE then destroyed, and he's 950 grams.

I have been trying to switch him to rat pups. That is what my albino eats. I'm not having to much luck with it tho.

If youre heading up in size, might not work too well. I read just this week on this forum that bigger prey can be intimidating. Medium small rats scare the crap out of 2 of my BPs. I have to get small smalls.

Not sure why these rats would scare him. They are eyes closed rat pups. I had heard about them getting scared of the food. Thats why I tried a small mouse today to get him feeding again.

Yeah Id just stick to what he eats for a while and multiples until he's not a chicken and will eat ONE appropriate sized meal instead of like 3 smaller ones. I have a 1500g female that wouldnt eat anything until I got her these two little ASFs. She's so frustrating. My only picky eaters are my sub adult pastel and my adult female. I hate having to kill and freeze left over rats. It's like I bought these for YOUUUU to kill, not me. EAT DAMN YOU!

I know exactly what you mean. I do not enjoy killing and freezing them either. He used to be an eating machine but then he stopped and started acting scared of them.
