missed the eggs... 1st timer too
We were cleaning out the corn snakes today, and my wife looked into the royals area.
We had a male spider in with a normal reduced pattern female. He was producing sperm plugs, but never seemed to go near the female..
today my wife opened the box and started screaming.. there were 7 eggs, 5 had gone a bit green and did start to smell.. the other 2 we have put in an incubator... they were pretty flat, but fingers crossed they will plump up, even if they are normals... we have never produced royal eggs, this was our 1st go, so alittle bit of downer.
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
well we lost another egg over night, so that leaves us with just one.. dont think its gonna make it, what a waste of perfectly good eggs
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
Aww, that's a real shame! I'm sorry to hear it. I'll keep my fingers crossed the last one makes it!
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
do you know how long they had been in there?

it cant have been more than 2 full days.. i was checkin them daily just incase, although i hadnt really thought she would be.
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
I am surprised you would see green eggs in only 2 days. Are you sure it could not have been longer? If it was only two days, the eggs were probably bad to begin with. Even my infertile eggs usually go longer that 2 days before showing signs that they are obviously dead.
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
hmmm, well i dont see how it can be any longer really.
I have corns hatching all ovr the place, so i have been with the reps a lot more this last couple of weeks..
i dunno, somehow i guess i must have been longer then
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
if your temps and humidity were right, you shouldn't have lost any of the eggs. they must have been born slugs unless your humidity was real low or temps were bad...
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
i'd say the humidity was low, we have been sorting the temps for ages, had to buy some new equipment to get it right.. so i guess the humidity was wrong.
egg wise, presuming that a slug would look similar to a corn snake slug, then they werent slugs... addmititly, we have little experience with royals, so the comparison may be way out.
Re: missed the eggs... 1st timer too
Do you have any pics of the remaining egg?
