Herpstat

What can be run off of one Herpstat I? It has 3 plug ins but I was curious what all can be ran with it and how that works with only one probe. It's currently running 1 rack. What can I tack on?

You can use as many heating elements as you want as long as they do not exceed the maximum wattage specified in the manual. The heating elements should all be the same and they should be heating the same size cages. If the cages or heat elements differ then you will get different temps in each enclosure which is not what you are looking for.

If you want two control different set ups or heat elements you will need a Herpstat II or Herpstat PRO.

You could tack on another rack of the same type as long as the wattage is not exceeded. You would place your probe somewhere in the middle if you stacked your new rack on top of your existing one.

Perfect advice from Spaniard. You can heat multiple racks and cages so long as it doesn't exceed the wattage that can be handled and that all the heating elements and cages are identical.

i.e. you DO NOT want to run a rack that has 4" flexwatt and another that has 11" flexwatt off one thermostat. But you could run two identical racks with 4" flexwatt off one t-stat or several identical cages off of one.

If you do want to run different cages/heating elements, then you need to get more t-stats or get a herpstat II (can run two) or herpstat Pro (can run 4).

I have the Herpstat Pro and I have one probe running bp rack, one running two identical cornsnake racks, one running cornsnake yearling/hatchling rack, and the last one running bp incubator. So I can control these four different set ups with one unit.

Ok cool thanks. I knew you couldnt run 4" and 11" off the same one, I meant more like 2 racks. So I can't have them side by side and run them like that huh. I should look at a herpstat pro then ehh

You can have two of the same racks run side by side but they must use be exactly same.

Damn that sucks. I was going to build another rack but with more shelves, so it'd be taller. =/

You might be able to work that out; you will just probably have to mess with the probe placement of the thermostat. Heat tape size and tub size is what really matters; but the probe will be the tricky part. Finding the right level to put it on so that the smaller and larger rack do not have to big of a temp spread between the top and bottom levels.

My Herpstat ND is running 3 identical RBI racks that are next to each other. I have not had issues with temperature fluctuations.

And we have some good news. Thank you. Now how about if I got the probe placement down and wanted to incorporate an incubator into the mix, but put a rheostat on the cord that would power said incubator, and the room temps was stable all day everyday and at night...is that possible? Im probably going to end up buying another thermostat just for the incubator when the time comes, but if it can work....

I built my rack, and I dont want to build another one like it. I love it and all, but it was too much of a PITA to re-do. Plus I could've gotten 6 more shelves out of the sheets of particle board if I had it designed differently.

No clue, I have no experience with incubators as of yet. I would personally buy a separate thermostat to make sure I don't compromise the success of the eggs.
