Re: Peeking out of the hide?
I think your right.
My ball pythons are very curious about the things happening outside their cages and I often spot them poking their heads out of their hides to have a look around. It's pretty cute. My boa does it a lot to, and if I reach into his cage he doesn't bolt back into his hide, he smells my hand and then climbs up my arm. He's a lot less shy than my BPs, and I've had them longer. So I think that is a definant sign your ball is feeling more comfortable with his surrondings.:gj:

I wonder specifically if it could mean that my new little guy is feeling a bit bolder and safer in his new cage. He's started doing it more frequently lately and I'm hoping it could be a sign that he feels safe and that I'll be able to attempt a feeding soon. :D
How long have you had yours? Remember, they are ambush predators, meaning they will do this in hopes of something running in front of the hide they are in! And as long as he isn't out roaming all day/night, he isn't stressed. Sounds like he may be settling in! :)
Re: Peeking out of the hide?
my BP does this for one aparent reason. he is scanning his surroundings for..... FOODZ lol
looking for heat and movement. Try offering something i bet it could be waiting for something tasty to go by so it can snatch it up.
Re: Peeking out of the hide?
Mine does this all the time:)

He came in the mail last Friday. He did not seem overly shy or anxious (never balled up or anything) but still had kind of a rough first day since he refused the hides I first had in his cage. Once I replaced them with something smaller and darker (tv dinner trays, lol) he settled right in.
I'm excited now, I'll have to try feeding him tonight! Thanks guys!
Re: Peeking out of the hide?
OMG, he just took a f/t hopper!!!
He did not actually strike and coil, but after trying to tempt him with it for about 15 min. I left it in the cage, made sure everything was dark and quiet, etc. Now it's gone!
Thanks everyone for the help! :D:D:D

what do yah know, he has a way to say im hungry lol I usually wait until my BP rests his head at the door of his hide and then feed. and sure enough every time it seems to be a sign he is hungry. my red tail does this as well.
