    hatchling question
how many days after a hatchling emerges from its egg should food be offered? are they more likely to take live or does it not matter to them as hatchlings?

I wait a week after their first shed before offering a live hopper. They need it to be live to recognize it as food. It can sometimes take a few weeks before they'll take their first meal - just offer once a week.

Normally I wait till after they shed once and then offer food. Every hatchling that I've had so far that has not had to be assist fed has started eating live. Like Robin said they tend to key off the movement and the warmth when the first start eating. So live is your best option for success.

Mine shed about a week after hatching, then instantly took to hopper/small mice twice a week. Now she is about 6 weeks old and is taking down adult mice twice a week. :gj:
