    Defication during gestation?
I was wondering if any of you have noticed that with your females during building follicles or breeding in general(if they eat during the process) deficate less than average? My female who I bred late this year has been eating, and eating a lot, but, hasn't deficate. For the last couple days she has become real puffy. Is this normal? Don't get me wrong she did regularly before she was breeding. In fact here is a pic......Thanks all.

Its hard to tell from the pic she looks perfectly normal to me. As for the defecation I have never payed attention to it.

I have had females that have eaten to within 2 weeks of ovulation. From my experience, they typically will deficate during the building process, and may even do so in conjunction with their Post Ov Shed. However, I don't recall ever seeing anything more than a small urate spot between POS and laying.

    Hope that helps,

Well she shed on May 15, but, I don't think it was a POS. Shouldn't snakes deficate at least once a week? Does it look to you like she is building? This is the same female I caught upside down the other day. Here is a pic of her a week ago.....

Like Tim said most females stop eating as they build, and will stop eating altogether when they ovulate. The top picture she looks as if she just ate a normal meal, which like you said she did.

Once she stops eating and starts seeking the cool side of her tank/tub then you can start assuming its ovulation. Plus she will begin to reject the males as well at this point. :gj:

No, as they get older they deficate less often. Some of mine go a few weeks or even a month between defications.

That happens to be the same answer I would have given.
