    Reticulated compatibility question
Are regular albino, high white albino, lavender albino and purple albino retics compatible? The question came up today, and I no idea on this one. I was under the impression that the lines were separate and not compatible; it was speculated that they are, as one breeder mentioned in the discussion produced lavenders and regulars in the same clutch.

    What do you think?

White albinos, lavender albinos and purple albinos are all the same strain. Normal albinos or amels are different. So breeding whites, lavenders and purples together will produce albinos, but breeding any of them with an amel results in double hets.

You have the amel strain which is not compatiable with the clark strain. The clark strian is capable of producing the white phase, the lavendar phase and the purple phase. There are however alot of hets out right now that carry both of the albino genes so once those guys breed those retics it will be interesting to see what comes out

do i know you? just wondering if you know who i got this girl from.

just got her, no paper work, but trust worthy individuals. they said that the clutch produced hets (bought at columbia show) and a mix of lavender and regular albinos. this makes me think that it is the clark strain i'm dealing with.

do you know of any markers for each, other than the lighter coloration generality? i'll throw a picture up if needed.

    thanks for the reply!

no im sorry I worded that wrong I meant that as there is a clark strain and a amel strain. Im sorry for that. Usually the retics dont really have any markers for albino that I know of. But if she is het for clark strain albino and you breed her to an albino male or het albino male you have the chance of producing lavendars, whites, and purples! When she gets big enough let me know and you can use my albino male lol

sounds great! the minimum that i expect is next year though; she's about 8 months old, about 5' long. and a PIG!!!! all my retics, current and past have been great eaters, but this one takes the cake!!! caution is needed when going in the cage, lol. she'll wake up and chase your hand down!

however, the eager feed response is misleading. once out, she's the calmest retic i've had so far, not head shy at all! :) The previous owners and i have planned on this switch for a while now, i'm glad it came to fruition! :)

thank you for the offer! i'll also offer my male (14') for trial, he's a strange one. bullseye markings inside most of his circular saddles. he's due for a trip to the yard, so i'll take some pix tomorrow.

    thanks again!

Did you purchase her from the last columbia show?

also, i'm wondering if anyone has noted the same that i have.... it seems the het albinos are a bit lighter in color than normals. i've seen some DARK het babies, but they always seem to lighten up....

also, any pertinence to the number of head spots? i've been told it's indicative of something special, but it seems a random occurrence to me...

no, she was purchased last year at a show. i'm the second owner, besides the breeder; these are people i know and trust, and they have excellent animals in their collection, and are very knowledgeable of ailments and remedies of multiple species. from what i understand, they just have too many retics atm. i traded an adult male bci and a 4mo albino cali king for her.
