ASF in same room as snakes?
So with the completion of my snake rack I am going to put it in my closet to save space (it runs the length of my wall, so it is really wide and about 3-4 feet deep) and have it on display. I am going to get some trios of ASFs to breed, and I want to keep them on the other side of the closet.
Will this have any effect on the snakes? Will they be constantly in "I wanna feed" mode? Make them more likely to bit or anything? Be always wanting to escape to go check the ASF out?
And I assume that if I close the part of the closet with the rats they won't really stink up my room, right? Assuming I clean out the piss corner regularly?
Re: ASF in same room as snakes?
I keep mice in the snake room, haven't been bit.....yet, only the snake in the viv closet to the mice, seems to get a little sqirrely.
Re: ASF in same room as snakes?
no big deal. My snakes and some rodents are kept in my basement. The snakes can smell them if they are in the house basically. Over time the odor will travel.
Re: ASF in same room as snakes?
Cool, I didn't think there'd be a problem, but thought I'd ask. If I do notice them going weird I can probably move them to the garage or across the room.
Also, is there a problem keeping ASF on say pine then feeding them to balls (since pine is poisonous to balls)? Or is there just trace amounts of the aromatic oils left?
Oh, and with feeding: should I feed the snakes (they are being kept on cypress or coconut husk, jjust got these, so not moving back to paper any time soon. I think mulch is much more pleasing to the eye) in a dedicated feeding tub lined only with newspapers or can I just release the ASF in to their cages? How serious is the risk of impaction? I've heard conflicting reports.

as long as the pine bedding is kiln dried you shouldn't have a prob but if its not i wouldn't use it.
