Hello All, New BP

Hello everyone, love the amount of information here.

I just adopted a ball python from some friends who are no longer able to keep him. They've had him for almost two years. I've wanted one and done research for quite some time (years lol) on having a BP. Beautiful creatures! I dont know gender for sure, they never had him sexed. Some of the temp gauges where in the wrong spot in his enclosure so first thing I did when I set it up is move them to his level, not the top of the tank.

Before I picked him up from their house they cleaned the cage and everything in it (hides and dish) and got me some new substrate. They also fed him a large feeder mouse before I got there which I would have asked them not to had I known so he wouldnt regurge because of stress. As of right now he's not really acting stressed at all, enjoying his hide and has a nice gradation from about 95* hot side and 83* cool side.

Assuming he's a normal. He's a little over 2' long. Happy as a clam and very friendly. His last shed was about two weeks ago as well.

he looks in decent shape. thats good. mice are too small for him though. deafinitly could be on a small-medium rat. ill lean more to medium.

did i read right? did he/she in fact regurge? if so you should skip feeding for 14 days. as the stomach acids realy thrash there throat and mouth fro ma regurge and there stomach flora will be low and it needs time to replenish.

No no! Sorry I forgot to go into that, it did not regurge. He's actually not showing signs of stress at all. I was just concerned about it as they fed him about 4 hours before I got him. Very happy. And about the mice that's sorta what I was thinking when they explained how long he was to me. I want to let him digest his current meal and get acclimated in his new home before he gets more food. I was thinking giving him a week or two would be good?

he seems to be pretty established and used to human contact. so he may or may not even be stressed from a move. and thats good to hear.

he/she looks like he was actually pretty well taken care of. much better then most Balls we see tossed into peoples laps.

sounds like your on the right track. im having a hard time finding what your trying to ask in your post or maybe u just felt so excited you wanted to explain how you got your new pal.

it does indeed look to be a normal. and a nice looking one at that. Like i stated though if all they were giving him was one feeder mouse. thats a small meal for a ball that size. time to move up :D Id give him a week in his new home and they offer it something a lil more geared to his/her size.

Didnt have any specific questions. But I am glad to hear that you're thinking bigger feeders are due for him. He's very human friendly and not shy at all.

In general they are Very docile and friendly... although head shy. and im sure others who will drop in will say its time to feed it larger prey. unless im guaging the size of the snake wrong... you dont have baby arms do you? lol

Haha no I dont have baby arms. When they first told me they fed him feeder mice (sometimes two) still I assumed a snake his size should be onto at least small rats.

a snake his size should be on a medium rat every 7 days or possibly 2 smaller ones. its the keepers choice really.

feeding 1 is easier then 2.

mice are just a snack for it... its probably wondering when dinner will be served after eating the mice.
