    breeding timeline
ok, I've recently moved out of the monitor breeding and start pairing my balls. i have a het albino pair. female is approx 1100gs. and still accepting food. male is 635 grams and also eating like a champ. I've been letting them lockup for the past week. they were left on for 3 days and now off 3 days. keeping temps at 82F-76F.

question is. when should i stop letting them lockup and just let my female do her thing?

    thanks a million.

I'm not one hundred percent sure because I'm no expert, but I think the only way to assure the female to lay eggs is to continue to pair them up until you spot an ovulation. If you can feel follicles but she has not ovulated yet then the follicles can always reabsorb. So pair till ovulation, or if you miss the ovulation but you know she had a pre ovulation shed then it should be safe to say you can separate.

    Hi,

Are you sure that at 1100gs she is large enough and in good enough health to breed?

We normally advise people to wait until they are 1500gs just to be on the safe side.

when i bought her she was 920 grams. the guy i got her from had a female that laid 4 eggs at 1000 grams Albino x normal and got 3 albinos out of the 4 eggs. not saying that's why i should. but she's still feeding and getting bigger i weight her every other week and she's been fattning up. i just don't know if i stop them now and just feed that bout time she gets to 1500 will it be too late to breed them.

but there's no doubt in my mind she's healthy she's been pounding 2 100-130gram ASFs a week. so i know she's healthy.

but iam a very humble person so suggestions are very much appreciated and will be used.

i also have a het hypo female at 1200 grams i haven't breed yet and she pounded 2 114g ASFs today.

    help please.

    thanks,

    felipe.

I thought that if you bred a albino to a normal you would get all hets?

Thanks Deborah, I thought I saw somthing wrong with that statement.

    Really

Well that's strange because if you breed an Albino to a Normal you do not get any Albino, I would be curious to know who told you that.

As far as breeding goes it is not a race, take you time feed her and next year she will be bigger and give you more eggs.

That's why Most ofthe time I've Kept them apart. don't Never wanna sacrafice the Health of Any of my herps. And Snakes are definitely different from my varanids. But I've found myself getting mislead information from everywere. As far as the Albinos go that's what i was told. Didn't see it for myself and didn't wanna speak up on something i wasn't sure of. i work for us global exotics so i talk to guys like bob clark & andy jones all sorts of breeders on a daily, being a zoo keeper and felid herping a lot you have to think.

in the wild a female won't wait for 1500gs to breed they'll drop 2-3 egg clutches easily. Now the Slug to Live rate is Probably Bad But i hear soo many 'your snake will die' if you breed under 1500 grams.

but this sites clarified a lot so ill just keep my female to her self and get them both up to par. & put some more weight on my boy and add to my collection. and be ready whenever iam ready. =)

    thanks felipe.

yea iam just gonna keep the ASF routine going and you'll see my babies next year! that also gives me enough time to study more and fully understand the process. So my girls will fatten up and my breeding knowledge as well.

i think this forum is home. Lol

    thanks A million.

wise choice i know it is very tempting to breed them when they are close to weight but i feel that it is just way to much stress on their body. i have a girl that is 1500 that i am breeding now and i feel sort of bad about it but she looks healthy as a horse. so yea i think you will not regret waiting.
