    Herpstat Question
Hi Everyone, I recently noticed that my Herpstat has reset 41 times?? Is this normal? Should I use a different outlet?

It's not currently connected to a surge protector. Should I connect it to a surge protector?

mine does the same thing, it also says that the temps spike up to 140+ and drop to 30 and below. i think i need to send it in for repairs, but its only on one prob so i can wait till i get a replacement

The power reset counter gets incremented each time the Herpstat gets powered up. So every time you unplug it and replug it back up that will increment. If you reset it and leave it plugged in and its incrementing that means your home power is cutting out. It could just be a brown out (where the voltage dips low enough to cause a reset on the processor). A surge protector shouldn't make a difference in that case as its a lack of power and not a spike. It really just a identifier of power quality. So if you are checking your high/low temps and the low looks very low you can check the power reset counter to see if maybe the power was cut causing the problem.

Your issue is 99% chance of electical interference. In rare cases some AC power is really noisy causing problems. If the temp probe wires are running along the 120Vac wires the noise from the AC can corrupt the data being sent back to the Herpstat. The Herpstat has built in code to eliminate bad data but there is only so much interference it can handle. Usually just remounting the probes in a way that their wires stay as far away from the 120ac wires is enough. Occasionally, there is a device plugged into the same home circuit (like a refridgerator with a noisy motor) that is the cause and you may have to swap outlets to try to find an outlet on a different circuit. Our new probes that we started shipping 2 weeks ago also can help as they have a thicker jacket on the wire.

I have to agree! I never expected Dion to personally answer my question! Thanks for taking the time out of your day to answer my question. I didn't even think of brownouts as the cause but the more I think about it the more I remember our power flickering during a resent storm. It seems so obvious now, Thanks Dion.
