    BP's Outside?
Is it safe to take my ball pythons around outside with me? Like to the pet stores and what not? Obviously not my mean ones, but my puppy god tame bob(my first). Also I mean when weather is nice. What temps are good enough? Thank you very much.

Yea I've always wanted to. We'll have to wait for some experts to chime in.

    personally I wouldn't
    1. being carried around would stress them out
    2. no telling if it would come in contact with other snakes that might have diseases or mites that could transfer to him.
    3. there is no telling how people will react to it. I think it was last year that some kid stomped on the head of a guys burmese.
    4. theres always a chance it might escape in the car or something.

    Hi,

Not an expert since I have never done it. :P

I would be carefull taking them to anywhere that has other reptiles purely from the quarantine point of view.

I will leave it to those who know anything about it to speak to temperatures etc.

Safe? Kind of a vague word... I guess it's safe enough if cared for properly depending on where you take it. I wouldn't recommend any pet stores especially if they deal with reptiles. There are a lot of reptile diseases and parasites that can be transmitted to your snake, and personally I wouldn't feel comfortable taking any of my snakes to an unknown or questionable location.

Second, ophidiophobia exists in a large percentage of the population. One thing that snake owners should be aware of is that there will always be people that are extremely afraid of snakes. I don't think you would be doing the snake community a service bringing your snake to an area where people don't expect to see snakes.

Finally, your snake really doesn't need the interaction and stress that comes public exposure. I think it's fine to take your snake outside in your yard or a neighbors yard and let it roam around the grass for a while, but I wouldn't recommend anything beyond that unless you're moving it or taking it to the vet.

I worked at a Petco for two years. Once a guy came in with ball pythons wrapped around his wrists. There was one lady in my checkout line who was really freaked out - "the man over there has snakes!!" - and seemed like she couldn't wait to get out of there. Honestly you COULD do it, and it's been done, but to me it's not worth risking someone freaking out. Many people are genuinely terrified of snakes.

My first BP went on a road trip with me and my wife from CA to UT. He sat on the dash inside a crown royal bag with his head poking out just enjoying the rays coming thru the windshield.

    I dunno, thats just me.

Strong points thus far throughout the thread though.
