Handling my ball python

I have had a ball python (my first snake) now for about a month and I'm having troubles handling him. He is about 2-3 months old as far as I know and around 20 inches. After I got him I let him sit for about 2 weeks. When i enter the room he freezes up for a little then continues moving but is still weary of me. I went to pick him up one time when he was stretched out and he tried to bite me. Whenever i take the cover off his cage and try to reach for him he tucks his head away and stays there.

I would like to handle him and get him more comfortable with me but i am unsure how to proceed. Right now I am trying a gradual approach by increasing the time that we interact daily. I was just hoping someone might have some useful tips to help with my situation. If you need to know anything else just ask.

From what I've read around here, too much contact will also stress out the snake more, which isn't what you want. It's tough to really say how much handling is too much, as it could depend on the animal.

As it's still small and you just got it, I would give it some time. He'll eventually get used to your daily movements around the tank hopefully. Maybe not though. I've had my ball for over a year now and she's still cautious. She's never tried to bite me like that, but I think it's in their nature to be like that.

Don't give up hope! Eventually they get used to you. Mine likes to explore clothes now, and even ended up in my girlfriend's belt loop one day. :D

I think that is the nature of the beast. Your ball python will get more used to you, but, they are cautious and secretive by nature. Things will get better!
