    Feeding babies
How long do you wait before feeding a hatchling? Mine came out on wednesday, was going to try feeding this week. This is my first clutch, so I am learning!

You should feed them after they have their first shed which will be in 10 days after birth...then you should offer food...you can feed them fuzzies...pinkies are usually for twins...

    After the first shed.

Average hatchling can be started on mice hopper (and not fuzzy) or rat crawler.

Awesome, so they are not starving then!

They look like they are just starting to haze up now, so I still have a few more days

    Thanks guys!

After the fist shed. ditto(I know) I started most of mine last year on f/t fuzzy mice. A couple refused the f/t, so I became a small time mouse breeder and used live fuzzies to get a few started. They could probably start on hopper mice also depending if you have small or big hatchlings.

Will it hurt to feed babies before their first shed? Say a week after hatching?

They don't need to be fed that soon. The reason they absorb yolk before hatching, is that the yolk is their first meal, and will carry them over until they find their first meal. Typically, some yolk can still be felt in them when they are going into their first shed cycle (which is generally around the 3-5 day mark).

    Hope that helps,

They also likely won't eat until after their first shed - because of the reason Tim mentioned (their first meal is the absorption of their yolk).
