Calvin is actually a female Painted Turtle. (Chrysemys picta)
She came to us in January and she had already been through quite a bit. She is obviosly a hatchling from last years clutch. A little boy (8-9yrs old) picked her up and brought her home. His parents then put her into their living room fish tank that was a 55 gallons with 4 Oscars in it (please if you understand, S. American Chiclids) This is a very bad situation, she lived in the tank holding on to the air and filter lines for over four months (could you imagine.) Then the family was to be evicted from their residence and the mother of the child had a coworker call us.
She has been doing well and will be released soon. (That is our FAVORITE part!)
I’ll post some pics of her release, hopefully soon. Now she has to go through her third medical clearence before release. But no one has any doubts that she will be free soon.
Sincerely
Rusty
Re: CT Reptile Rescue Painted Turtle
Calvin was set free today. She turned around and looked at us for a second and then was gone.
We're glad she was cleared and ready for release.
Getting them back to the wild (whenever possible) is our favorite part.:)

Re: CT Reptile Rescue Painted Turtle
Aww, nice. She was beautiful. I have a Western Painted, and his colors are nowhere near as nice as that.
Re: CT Reptile Rescue Painted Turtle
thanks, I am sure she is a happy girl free and clear. She just has to watch out for her natural predators now. She is in a well regulated area free from human hunters. Happy about that.
Thanks for the compliment (even thou we had nothing to do with her awesome color, I guess we have to give that one up to mother nature).
Thanks
Rusty

Nice work, Rusty! I'm sure she is a much happier girl now.
