Yet another thermostat question
I shifted my heat mat and thermostat from a plastic tub to a glass tank and while before it was going on and off all the time (showing that it was working correctly) now it's going on and off very far in between.
In the first setup the thermostat probe was positioned underneath the tub, between the table and the heatmat, while now it is taped underneath the heatmat but not touching the table (since it doesn't fit underneath the tank), is that the reason?
The tank is already lifted some 1/8 " from the table, do you suggest I use more spacers to lift the tank a little more (around 1/3" - 1/2" ) so that I could stick the t-stat probe in between the heatmat and the table or between tank and heatmat again?
Thanks
Re: Yet another thermostat question
I think having it in the tank under the bedding would be better.
Re: Yet another thermostat question
your thermostat probe needs to go between the mat and tank.
Re: Yet another thermostat question
thanks,
mmm so far 2 different answers....
anyone else?
Re: Yet another thermostat question
Hi,
Thermostat probe would probably work better between the heatmat and the bottom of the tank.
Thermometer probe would be best under the substrate above the heatmat to check it was giving the correct temperatures inside the tank without getting too hot. Once you know that you can move the thermometer probe to various other areas to get everything dialed in right. And don't use tape inside the enclosure (unless it is low tack painters tape). :gj:

Re: Yet another thermostat question
thanks,
I'll attach some more spacers on the bottom of the tank until i can fit the probe (around 1/3 inch) and i'll put it between the heatmat and tank.
Re: thermometer it's no problem since I use a tempgun often.
Re: Yet another thermostat question
so it's safe to put the tank on spacers to elevate it to about 1/3 - 1/2 inch...?

outside or inside the tank?
Re: Yet another thermostat question
My heatmat is on the outside.
Re: Yet another thermostat question
Hi,
Yes outside was what I was meaning.
This stops the snake from affecting it by P'ing on it or spilling its water on it or even just lying on it.
If they did then the thermostat can crank up the heat as a result - possibly to dangerous levels. It's just easier to avoid these problems in the first place whenever possible. :)
