    Sore Throat Remedies
...yesterday I had a fever and a sore throat. Went and saw the doc and he did a strep test and it came back negative. He said just get plenty o rest and gargle warm salt water.

Well, I broke the fever but still have the sore throat. It is not the scratchy kind that makes you cough. It is more tender so it hurts when I swallow, making drinking or eating painful.

I tried the warm salt water trick but I pretty much ended up gagging myself :weirdface ...my wife brought home a milkshake yesterday and the coldness and smoothness I feel helped...but as much as I would like to have milkshakes for every meal, I need actual food.

Chloraseptic spray does not help either.

Anyone have any tricks that may help?

Thanks all and happy Thursday! :salute:

I get throat infections all the time. But I have to tell you, the only thing that works for me is warm water with sea salt 2-3 times a day. In about a day or two, it's gone.

Josh for whats is worth an old polish woman at my prior job used to tell me to drink vodka with a splash of honey and lemon juice. No matter what the illness the remedy was always the same... lol

I sometimes get really sore throats because of my bad sinus' and post nasal drip. I end up drinking lots of cold water and eating jello. One of those unfortunate things where you just need to rough it out.

    Hope you recover soon.

Second the post-nasal drip - I get it all the time too. You can drip almost a liter of fluid of day and that really wrecks the back of your throat.

Saline nasal spray (OTC) seems to help keep it in check during allergy season. I also use Flonase (Rx) when it gets really bad.

    Gargle some salt water...

It's not fun, but it will help.

    I use that method sometimes.

Only I don't use Vodka. I just mix up a big cup of Hot Chocolate. Then add a ton of honey, and a couple splashes of the lemon juice.

It coats your throat and the lemon helps cut through any phlegm you may have.

I do hot tea with honey and lemon(which I despise, and drink down like a dose of medicine), and gargle with warm salt water(it gags me too).
I hate sore throats too, it's right up there with racking coughs.

    antibiotics.

Except the strep test came back negative.

Every time I've had a persistant sore throat, it was strep though. Tea with honey and lemon as mentioned before is pretty good.
