    Picked up these Gargs yesterday
Boyfriend and I got some new mouths to feed. But we don't mind.

    Female Gargoyle:

    Male Gargoyle:

Male looks a little thin to me, not sure if that is normal as I've never had one before. But I'm sure he'll fatten up now that he's in a great home!

    Thanks for looking!

Wow. Those are cool. I've been contemplating getting a gecko for awhile. I just can't decide if I really want to give up the bp money for them. lol. It's a tough decision.

Awesome! They're both gorgeous! We picked up a few gargoyles a couple months ago and absolutely love them!

I'm gonna second Josh's question; Who'd ya get them from? lol

Thanks everyone! We picked them up at a local reptile show. They have one every other month. I can't remember the guys name off the top of my head(just woke up) but his site is www.thegeckobasement.com. He's out of St.Louis. I think he's more of a hobby breeder. Gave a good deal on the pair.

We really like our Crested Geckos, but thought it'd be neat to take the next step and gets some Gargoyles. Since they are similar in care figured they wouldn't be too much trouble. lol Only had a chance to snap a couple pics and put them in their enclosures, but they both made a cute little bark. So I'm looking forward to these cuties. :)

I love their little barks! We have three and they're unofficially named Screamer (barks a lot), Sidewinder (moves to the side whenever you try to touch/hold), and Baby (it's tiny!).

It's fun to get to know their individual personalities! You're gonna love em!

    Congrats.

Those two must fire up pretty neat!

The male does look a bit thin. But then again it's hard to judge size in pics sometimes. Generally a healthy garg will be over the 50 gram mark. I have one female that is a bit on the small side and hovers around 50 grams, my male is upper 50s and my other female is mid-60s I think.

    Do you know their ages?

Gargs are neat, but they need a little longer to mature than cresties before breeding. You're best to wait 18 months to 24 months before putting them together and ensuring the weight is right too. And they have a far more limited "breeding lifespan" than cresties. Where you can get fertile eggs from a 15 year old crestie you're only going to get 6 seasons or so out of a garg I think it is. They still live the same amount of time though so would still make for great pets.

Sorry if I'm repeating stuff you already know.

    Congrats again!

I didn't even put them on the scales yet. Probably should have done it when we first got home. lol Oh well, I'll wait a week and after they settle in a bit get their weight. The guy said they still had some time before they were old enough to breed. I think the female was born in May of 08 and the male was July of 08. But we mainly just wanted them as pets. If down the line we decide to breed we'd already have a male and female. But for now they have their own enclosures.

Oh and the more info I can get on these guys the better, so keep the info coming. :gj:

Re: Picked up these Gargs yesterday
Gargs are far more solitary than cresties are, so their own enclosures are a great idea. I intend to rotate my male between the females this season and then at the end when I take him out for the winter he'll have his own enclosure. This will give both girls a much needed break.

If the female was May 08 then she probably shouldn't be bred until next season anyway. Technically you could pair them up around November/December but then that makes no sense as it's the cooler months anyway. So I'd just wait until the spring and pair them up in February or March... if you do decide to breed them.

Their care is so similar to cresties. The only thing they need is a bit more protein in their diets. I offer my adult gargs dusted crickets 2 to 3 times a week where adult cresties only get them 1 to 2 times. That's about it... Some people also say that gargs will more actively use a basking spot if provided with one. But this can be tricky because you don't want them to overheat. Those 13w incandescent aquarium lights (cheaper than the 'reptile' version by far!) probably do the trick just fine.
