cutting 3" flexwatt

Ok. I have some 3" flexwatt for something I am working on. I have always used 4" in the past. I know you must cut the 4" between the black lines. But I was told the three inch you don't have to. The four inch lines look like ][ the 3" looks like //. Can someone help me here?

you can cut anywhere on the strip and make it as long or short as your want, just dont cut across any of the black lines only between them.

i always cut mine square at the end,makes no difference in heating output or safety,just make sure you cover end with electrical tape as it will be hot.have fun!

Hi,

Well here's a third answer just to confuse you even further. :P

If you cut between the black lines ( i.e the heat elements ) then the only bits electrically active at the cut end you will need to cover will be the strip down both outside edges.

If you cut through the black lines then you will also need to insulate that bit with electrical tape as well.

Either way you need to insulate exposed electrically active areas with electrical tape before taping it down with foil tape as that can conduct electricity.

Unless it is dictated by the sizes you need I can't see any advantage to cutting through the heating element section so, personally, I would avoid it just for simplicities sake.

Just remember to test everything before running current through it while throwing water about and you should be fine. :)

ok thanks guys. This whole thing has been one problem after another...My spray foam in the incubator didnt harden fully!

in the serveral piece I wire up and done ofr other. you can cu the thoug hth black part ( whatI do is remove the entire stirp you cut though and tape it off this way no chance of it arking or anything.it also best to tape these end to help protect yourself incase a water bowl spill or such things.
