Sterilite container

I bought a 20g long and lid combo for $60 but I want to switch to plastic as I am having a lot of problems keeping my temps up at night (i live in Wisconsin, the temperature here doesn't stay the same for 5 seconds let alone 8 hours).

Should I be able to get the right size container at Wal-mart?

Yeah they have all sorts of sizes and depths. That is where I got all my tubs at. I am currently using sterilite 40 qt tubs and they were 8 bucks a piece for the tub and lid together so you should be able to find whatever size you need. A little tip if they don't have the size your looking for go back a few times. This is what I had to do to get all the lids as they had enough tubs but not enough lids. And now I built my own rack and no longer need the lids anyways! LOL

Would it be safer to use a heatind pad for humans with plastic than a reptile heating pad?

Well right now I am using under tank heaters with my tubs till the flexwatt gets here and they have been fine. I have been using them like that for about 3 weeks or so and the tubs have been fine no melting but you might want to use a thermostat or dimmer so you can adjust the temp.

No, human heat pad are not meant to run 24/7 year round and by doing so it could easily become a fire hazard.

Just like with any type of enclosure you need to use a Thermostat to maintain proper temps but also to avoid overheating which could lead to burns.

Yes.

Like I mentioned above you need to use a Thermostat to maintain proper temps and avoid overheating, which should already be doing with your glass tank.
