egg question

Hi all,
My ball had her first clutch 2 days ago and i have put the eggs in an incubator but today have realised `1 of the eggs has like a clear patch on the top.she laid 5 eggs in all and its the only one with it,all the rest look normal.Could any one tell me is it anything to worry about and should i remove it from the rest.

it is likely an area that isn't fully calcified. If you have candled it and it shows veins then leave it in with the others and it will probably be just fine. I hatched one with a large "window" as they are called. You get a look into what is happening in the egg as it develops. It is very cool! Do a quick search on the forum here for "window egg", the picture of mine may show up. :) Congrats on your clutch!

I have also had this happen to a few eggs and so far they died off and one molded up pretty badly. Each of the eggs that had the clear spot wasn't as hard as the others. The spot also felt like it was wet kinda, and I'm not sure if there was anything I could have done to save the eggs.

If the spot feels wet, it can possibly be fixed. In the past, we used to use a paper towel to dry off the spot, and apply Liquid Band-aid to it. Well, I went looking for my supply of Liquid Band-aid this year and couldn't find it. I also spoke to a few other people who could not find it. As a result, I bought another product, that does a similar job as Liquid Band-aid. I just applied the first treatment of this new product, and until I see how it will work, I don't want to display the name. I have heard of some people using foot powders and other water absorbing products to help with wet spots.

Now, on the other hand, if it is a lack of calcium, it is what others have called a "window", and should not cause a problem at all. It just provides a neat spot in the egg to watch the snake inside before it hatches.

That is new skin. I have heard it doesn't work. However, I don't have first hand experience, as I haven't tried that stuff yet.

With that said, I love this thread, because it may help us all if someone can share their experiences of something other than Liquid Band-aid that has worked (since the aforementioned is no longer available).

What do you think about this one?

Edit: Never mind after reading the user comments it appears the "good version" of this that came in a bottle is no longer available. I wonder if thats the one you used in the past Tim???

I have not even bee able to find that one in stores either. It is all over e-bay, but not in stores. However, I have not tried that one either. I still have some old Liquid Band-aid left (the one with the dropper bottle and applicators). The one displayed in that link has the applicators with the stuff already on them. I would think that it would work, but have no experience.

I was talking to a friend yesterday that is debating trying Elmer's Glue. If it's safe to eat, it can't harm an egg. The only thing with Elmer's, is it won't let the egg breathe in the applied spot. However, it doesn't really need to breath, so long as the whole egg is coated in it.

After some more applications of what I am using, and maybe some Elmer's tests, I will probably post a thred with all of my findings.

This is a great thread. I have a little boob egg that is starting to mold - I was thinking about coating the thin end with something to help it along....
