Very small amount of blood around vent after shed
My snake shed this morning and when I picked it up I noticed a very small dot of blood in it near the tail, so I checked him out and I see some blood near the vent and another small dot on the paper towel. I think he may have rubbed his tail too hard when he was shedding or something, but what if the blood is coming from his vent? Could it be caused by an impaction, or something irritating his stomach?
Re: Very small amount of blood around vent after shed
Its normal, sometimes it happens after shed. If you were to see blood at any other time though it would not be ok.
Re: Very small amount of blood around vent after shed
Totally normal..when they shed they shed a small amount of skin just inside the vent. This tissue is very thin and has capillaries close to the surface. as a result some time a little tear or stretch in the tissue may happen resulting in a slight amount of blood loss. It can happen when an animal is Popped or probed incorrectly, to aggressively or by an inexperienced person.
I see it allot in animals that have humidity issues or are aggressive/really active when they shed.
Small amount is OK ....Big ole soaked area not so much.

Phew, thanks. I never noticed any blood any of the other times he shed so I was worried. I'll keep an eye on it anyway just to be safe.
