    Help Please
Hey everyone, so I 2 weeks ago I noticed that my bp's bottom jaw, right at the tip.

Had a little darkening, I dismissed it then, but checked again the next week, and I thought the darkening had gotten darker, and now this week I am also positive it has gotten darker, and I think it has radiated outwards.

The only thing I could think it could be is maybe the first signs of mouth rot (as much as I don't want it to be)

My question is: could it be mouth rot?

If not what else could it be?

It looks kind of like the pictures in this link, but darker and a little bit bigger:

I am starting to get really worried (hopefully over nothing) so any help would be great help

And I have tried to get pictures, but I do not have a camera that can focus that close enough, especially while she is moving. And I have tried to get her mouth open to look for mouth rot, but can't, as she eats it does not look like there is "the white cheesy stuff" anywhere.

    Thanks in advance

She probably just scratched herself some how(hopefully). I would think mouth rot would be inside, rather than outside the mouth. I would take a look inside ASAP.

Verrrrrry vague description, and not something I personally would associate with a mouth infection.

If you are worried, take him to the vet.

I can think of a few possibilities. If your snake has recently struck and hit something hard, like perhaps the glass of the tank if that is the kind of enclosure you use, it might be a bruise.

Sometimes snakes will rub their noses. I guess it might be possible the damage would show up on the chin depending on where/how they were rubbing.

Just throwing out ideas in case something will make you go "oh, that's it!" Without a pic, it is really hard to even make a good guess.

I would recommend getting a look in her mouth. It isn't hard, you just have to decide that you are going to do it and be gentle yet firm with the snake. There was a description of what to do in the thread you gave the link for.

Sometimes I forget to add that in my posts. I guess I think it is obvious. But I agree, if you think it is something to be worried about, a trip to a good reptile vet is a good idea.

Thanks everyone, it is reassuring to hear everyone say that they "wouldn't normally associate it with mouth rot/infection".

I will keep an eye on her (and the spot on her "chin") and see what happens. I can't get to the vet until next saturday anyway.

    thanks again
