Mites

ok so it turns out, that pastel I got from my friend had mites. I treated with PAM and a reptile mite body spray(forgot the name of it) And well its been about a week and have not seen a mite since. So how am I supposed to know when the mites are gone and can be placed in the rack with the others. I am asking because I cant see them on him, I never did. He was soaking in his bowl and I saw a couple dead ones.

If you can move all the snakes out of the area for a bit, just treat all the cages, including the one that had/has mites cage. Then return ALL the animals including him to the rack.

I had a snake come in with mites a WHILE back, I treated his cage as well as all my other cages, and left it at that.

Never saw em again.

The question is how long have you had that snake for?

You should be quarantining any new addition for 30 to 60 days. (This mean away from your established collection)

I would also highly recommend you to treat your collection with PAM as well because all it takes is one mite.

keep in mind that you only see adults. the eggs and the young can't be seen with just your eyes. keep you eye on the animals water bowl and move it away from the rest of your animals and treat them as well!!

So would it be safe to say, if I don't see one more mite a month from now I can put him in with the rest?

I think your missing the point slightly. :confused:

If he was in close proximity with the others then you need to treat all the cages - and repeat it in 30 days. Basically folow the instructions on the P-A-M.

This is exactly what the quarantine period is designed for - it means any problem like mites etc is contained in a small discrete area. Can you imagine the problems and expense of something like this in a big breeders facility if they didnt use strict QT?

Rushing to put him in the rack with other animals if he has not previously been in close proximity is , to be blunt, a very bad idea.

Mites can spread other infections so you need to bear that in mind.

He is on the total opposite side of the house from where my rack is. And no point missed. I just got done treating the two other tubs that were in the QT room with him. And the instructions on the PAM bottle said to treat the tub/substrate then repeat in two weeks. So since it said repeat in two weeks I assumed I could put them in the rack in one month. Thank you for the help!!!! So two months?:)
