I would say a BCI. A male won't get over 9 feet and they're generally pretty docile and are easily handled. However, I wouldn't recommend a tub. They make some nice PVC cages that don't cost too much and will work out much better than a tub.

Those are all fantastic choices and are all on my wish list.
I went with a coastal carpet python because they caught my fancy the most, are a little less common than BCIs, and I'm particularly interested in aussie pythons of all sorts.
Woma pythons will probably be out of your price range just fyi.
Also weight is something to consider with a snake's size. A fully grown blood python could very well outweigh an especially large carpet python that is longer than your length requirements.. just because they're so heavy-bodied.
Re: Best Mid-Sized Snake?
My personal favorite of those choices would be a carpet python. They're a more arboreal species and will spend more time climbing then hiding so you'll see them more often. I also think they have a better personality. They seem more curious and active then the boas or the blood pythons and I think they're a better handling snake too as they'll enjoy climbing all over you whereas the boas and especially the bloods seem to just sit there more often.
Re: Best Mid-Sized Snake?
The animal that would do best in a tub, out of the ones you listed, would probably be a blood python. Boas could be in tubs but to be honest with you, when their older they will benefit from a large enclosure. If your going to make an investment I would go the extra mile to get a suitable enclosure.
My recommendation, for a $150 limit, would be to get a Coastal Carpet, or a Colombian Red tail boa.
If you get a red tail I would get a Colombian (Just my personal choice).
Boa Constrictors and Carpets are both really fun snakes, just depends on what YOU prefer.
Re: Best Mid-Sized Snake?
My CRT is all over the place when i take him out. He's only about 3' now and is a handful when I try to put him back in his cage. But, I love him and he is alot of fun.

Re: Best Mid-Sized Snake?
I'm leaning towards a BCI or a Carpet Python.
Would a CP do okay in a tub? Everyone that I talk to has their RTBs in tubs... not really sure why thats suddenly being frowned upon. As long as I would provide a tub large enough, wouldn't it be fine?
If I got a CP would I get a Jungle or Coastal? Are their requirements the same?
I'm off to do some research on both, just a couple questions I had.
