Thinking about getting a Rough Green Snake
    hey every,

one we're thinking of getting a rough green snake (went to the pet store and they had a few) does anyone have any experience with them? I've been looking at some care sheets online and stuff but i would love to hear about anyone's experience with them.

    thanks :D

when I was younger I used to keep wild caught ones. they seemed to do okay I would only keep them for a week or so before releasing them. I had a few that would eat crickets and other small insects that I would catch for them. and then I had a few that never would eat. they are really neat snakes and very docile.

I had one I got from a convention. He was really cool looking, but he was defintitely not docile. I eventually gave him to the reptile rescue I got my BP from, as they had an older gentleman with experience who wanted one for his son. Mine was extremely fast, and was always trying to escape whenever I opened the tank. I fed it crickets, but it was aways buried in aspen so I never saw it eat. I read online somewhere that most of them are WC, which kind of pissed me off because the vendor did not mention that. Mince was defintely not handleable, but maybe after some time they could be?

I had a girl I bought from a petstore for two years. She was WC and it took a couple trips to the vet to get her up to health. She was s complete sweetheart and ate crickets consistently. I think they are great, but everyone I know who keeps them has commented on their shortened lifespan.

unfortunately, these snakes seldom fare well in captivity, especially if they are coming from a pet store. I have tried keeping several over the years, even the healthy eating ones seem to die off for some reason. They need a heavy a mount of foliage in their cage and they are insectivores. You will only very, very rarely find these CB.
