Quick Mite Question

Just got 2 pastels 1 albino. all had mites. I already have pam. I followeed the directions. What I want to know is how long do I leave the pam in the tub and will one dose work?

What do the instructions on the can say? And what kind of substrate are you using?

I think the normal practice is the re-treat in 30 days to make sure you kill any of them that hatch in the meantime ( it doesn't kill the eggs it just kills anything that hatches after treatment thanks to the residual effect ) but go with the intructions on the can if they say different.

I am using paper towel as substrate.I treated at about 3pm yesterday I just checked and seen a mite crawling on the Albino. Can the mites be seen with the eye? I am wondering if these are mites?

You can see them, they look like tiny black dots crawling around.

The pam just kills the eggs though, it doesn't kill the mites themselves. Pam is recommended because after 30 days, new mites will hatch no matter how fast you kill them or even if you think you "got em all".

If you still have mites on your snakes, You can try soaking them or wiping them down with a damp paper towel to try and get some of them off.

I called a few pet stores to find reptile releif or another product I couldn't find any. Two people told me I could rub the BPs with mineral oil and that would kill the mites.Has anyone done or heard of this?

To get rid of the mites on the actual snake, soak them in water with a drop of mild soap; which will suffocate the mites
You should see them build up on the sides of the tub like little pepper flakes in water

Grab something called 'Mite Off' by Zoo Med and spray the snake down with that. The mites should be gone within 24 hours

Use PAM to kill mite eggs and prevent any future outbreaks

I did what you said with the soap the Albino is all the way under the water even his head. Is this okay?

I believe this is wrong. PAM (Provent-a-mite) kills live mites, not eggs, just like any other mite product. The difference with PAM is that it leaves an active residue which will kill newly hatching mites as soon as they leave their egg, while most mite remedies only kill mites at the moment they are used.

NO, not at all
you just want enough water to cover half; maybe 3/4 at most of his body in height
And only one drop of MILD soap

he is putting his head under by himself. There is not to much water in it.
