Appropriate Tub Size

I currently have my three BPs in a RBI CB-70 rack. The rack uses Iris CB-70 tubs which, according to RBI, are roughly 31 quart (Is this correct? Sounds too small a volume for a 17x33x5.25 tub). I'm starting to think that these tubs will not be large enough to accomodate my BPs (particularly my female) as full adults along with two hides and a water bowl and a small humidifier.

Anyone have any thoughts/experience on whether these will be large enough for my adult BPs and does anyone use the 58 quart (14.5 gal.) Iris tubs? The dimension is 20"x39"x6.5."

stick with the 31 quart the should last a bp through his or her life and a 58 quart is way to big

Most people in rack systems only use one or no hides at all along with the water bowl. Depends on each animal I suppose.

i was about to say the same; if your rack is dark on sides and back, your snake already has a hide... more or less.

my tubs are water and pt. my displays are set up with hides, as they're exposed on 4 sides.

all but 2 of my bp's prefer tubs over tanks, the two that don't are picky lil buggers.... :)

The CB-70 is 41 quarts.

It is large enough to house the majority of females unless you have a true monster. Males may never need this size and will do well in 32 quarts. I personally only use one hide in my racks. I use blank newsprint as substrate and they can moved the hide around to where they want quite easily.

What exactly are you using has a "humidifier" in each tub? Just wondering as I've never heard of anyone doing this in a rack.

I personally use the 31 qt tubs, and the hide/no hide issue depends on the individual animal for me. my younger BP's always have hides, while my older ones don't use them unless they for some reason go off feed. Fresh water bowls are always provided though, reguardless.

So once your snakes go off feeding you offer a hide then once they start eating again you take the hide out? Sorry I dont understand this method

Thanks all! I was wondering if I needed both hides. Sounds like maybe not when they get older. In addition to a soaking-sized water bowl, I have a small, shallower dish that I have a sponge in. It wicks water and helps me maintain humidity. Works very well.

my adults only go off feed during the winter/breeding season. It seems to help get them "jump started" to eating again by adding a hide during that season, and once they've had 4 consecutive meals, I remove the hides and they continue to eat until the next winter/breeding season. For the snakes that i -know- do not eat well without hides, i leave the hides in.
