Tips for taking my snake outside
Now that the nice weather is fast approaching - this will be my first full summer with my BP.

I was just wondering if there are any obvious "no-no's" that I should be aware of to avoid.

Like, can I sit on my deck and hold my BP in sunny weather. Will windy days be bad for her. Is a certain temp outside too hot or too cold?? Just want to make sure I do not compromise her in any way with taking her outside.

    Thanks to all who respond.

Try to avoid sunny days when the air temp is already low 70*s. Try measuring the concrete on a day like that and be astounded by the heat.

Don't let them near ant piles is another good one ;)

I'd just be sensible about it really. Make sure she can't get away from you, that you aren't distracted, that she's not put down on any ground treated with pesticides, watch the temps, just stuff like that. Also so make sure that wherever you are handling her that you don't upset or disturb your neighbours (who needs that hassle) and that wandering pets can't suddenly take a jump at her.

Great - thanks for the tips. I don't think I will let her down - I would just hold her in my lap on the deck. If I do put her down in the grass - can she burrow under ground "quickly"????

They can't really "burrow", but it very easy to take your eyes off them temporaily... harder when they are in your lap. Also, you never know if pesticides/herbacides might ahve been sprayed.

You never know too what little mammal has dug a burrow in your yard. Our home up in Michigan was riddled one summer with mole burrows that any of our smaller bp's could have snuck down in a second. These snakes can be deceptive. They seem slow and lazy but I've seen some of them book it across a floor when they wanted to.

Try not leaving your sanke in the sun too much beacuse they can over heat quickly...

Thanks for the tips/advice. I don't think I will set her down - too afraid she will take off and I will lose her. I will just hold her in my lap and enjoy the sunshine for a bit.

    Thanks everyone.
