CO2 euthanasia of rats to pre kill
I work at an animal research facility and we euthanize our experimental animals via a CO2 chamber. It is very humane and very quick.
I am thinking of translating that technique to rats I feed my BP.
I feed live and am still on rat pups, but as the prey item gets larger in the future I know there is a possibility of my BP getting injured by the rat.
I feel this is a very humane way for me to prekill the prey item (I don't want to go back to FT) so it does not have the chance to injure my snake.....Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Co2 forces the o2 from the lungs, quickly suffocating the prey item....no chemicals no anasthesic chemicals, just Co2...I'd appreciate any thoughts:)

We have a few stickies in the feeder section outlining CO2 chambers with canisters and dry ice.
Re: CO2 euthanasia of rats to pre kill
This is a very popular way to put down rodents before feeding or freezing. There are some DIY "chambers" in some of the threads and I think a sticky somewhere. Post up some pics once your done with your setup, I'd like to see what you come up with.
Re: CO2 euthanasia of rats to pre kill
I already have my set up, I just need to get a 5 lb co2 tank...probably one that is for softdrink machines or kegeratos....the one's that I had found at home depot for welding supply were huge...and expensive.
I'll post a pic when I get it all :-)
