question about a temporary hideout
Hi guys! it's me again..
so first I would like to update you about my snake:
his doing good he ate last Friday. I ordered a new cage for him (look at my last thread if you need to know why :P ) and I started handling him a little bit more, at first he was really stressed and he didn't move a lot but now he goes around like crazy.
so here's my question:
I only have one hideout and I wanted to do one of those home made hideouts but I need to buy the right equipment for that.. so I looked around the house and I found this cloth basket... now my question is if I can use it after I'll wash it cause it's a little bit dirty...

I'm going to cut the small strings and make a nice hole so my snake can go inside... this temporary just for 2-3 days until I'll find a dark plastic in the right size or any of the materials in the "Hideouts my way" thread..
I have another one that looks like this:

that problem is that well it's PINK!..
tell me what you think and I really appreciate it!
I'll give you another update on what's going with the new cage when it will arrive.. :)
Re: question about a temporary hideout
well I personally wouldn't use a basket, but it might be okay as long as there are no sharp edges and as long as it's not too big for your snake. You have to make sure it's relatively tight fitting to your snake height wise as well as length/width wise. When you wash it just make sure you use little to no soap and rinse it well.
I don't think the pink case would be that good because it's not completely opaque. They really need to feel like they're in a small, dark, secure place and something like that wouldn't achieve the darkness part.
If it's only going to be 2-3 days and you can't find anything made of opaque plastic, I would use some sort of cardboard box of the appropriate size. Those make great temporary hides unless they're going to be getting wet :D
Just my two cents :)
Re: question about a temporary hideout
I wouldnt ruin the cloth thing for 2-3 day use, besides the material will be ruined if soiled and if used long term will be a bacteria issue:)
I would go to you cupboards, find an old solid color plastic bowl appropriate size and use that as a hide, or find an old cereal box for an old hide since it is a 2-3 day fix. If you go to set-up section of other peoples homes for bp's there are many cheap yet very effective hides available.
Main thing...
1. appropriate size and fit
2. material should be able to be washed and not retain urine or fecal matter...ie not cloth/cardboard etc etc...
3. Solid color, not be able to see thru the hide...
Best of luck:)
