Tape and thermostat probe in a tub, your thoughts
I have a friend who is getting a spider ball python in the near future. I helped him out with a 16 qt tub,a a-life thermostat, two rbi hides and a heat pad. I gave him advice to how to set up the tub but he wants to put the thermostat probe inside the tub and use tape to secure it in place. We work together and i'd love to show him everybody thoughts on here about that.
Re: Tape and thermostat probe in a tub, your thoughts
That's a terrible idea for a couple of reasons.
#1 if the probe gets wet or somehow gets moved the heat tape is going to be fired up and get extremely hot, hot enough to kill a snake and fast.
#2 if anything happens to peel up the tape it ca nget stuck to his snakes scales and can either tear scales off or cover the scales in adhesive which is really bad for the animal.
All in all it's not a good idea at all

Not a good idea if the snakes pees or tips the water dish over it will cool down the probe making the temps shoot up, possibly cooking his snake.

I kinda of have a bee in my bonnet about tape.
**edit**
I ignored the thermostat probe in the enclosure as everyone else has that nailed already.
