Recent adoption: feeding issue
About 2 weeks ago I adopted Zeke from an old high school friend of mine. Zeke is 13yrs old. Upon getting him, I though to myself "He doesn't appear as big as he should be" I was told he was fed 3 small/med mice every 2 months. This struck me as "not right". He was fed the 3 mice the day I got him. However, I fed him 2 small rats last Friday and plan on doing that once every 10-14 days. Does that sound like a good "diet change"? The rats are live for now, but I'm hoping Zeke will change over to F/T without problems.
Re: Recent adoption: feeding issue
Sounds like old Zeke is in good hands now. If he's taking two small rats maybe you could just go with one medium size rat. How big is he?
Re: Recent adoption: feeding issue
Just one word of caution. When underfed snakes finally start eating properly they tend to strike at anything that moves for a few weeks!

WOW I just noticed your avitar!!! Is that a lenticular?
Re: Recent adoption: feeding issue
LOL...yeah, I know now they will strike at just about anything. Got a little love tap on one of my fingers while feeding him.
In regards to his size, his widest diameter is close to 3inches...maybe just a bit more. I don't have the means to weigh him yet.
That cloud is a storm front moving in. A professional storm chaser took that photo and has it on his website. www.extremeinstability.com :)
Re: Recent adoption: feeding issue
One thing to keep in mind with a snake that old is that it might be a bit harder to get him to swap over to F/T rats. Don't be surprised if he doesn't go for the F/T thing at his age. Sounds like you got a decent snake on your hands though. I wish I could get all of mine to eat like that. Sheba is the only one that is eating with any sort of regularity. The others are off-feed now but I just keep trying each week. ;)

Thanks Grim....that's what I'm fearing. I'm hoping to get a couple of F/T rats this weekend to test out his reaction to them.
