Re: Types of Aspen Bedding
I don't see why it would be a problem, just monitor during feeding to make sure nothing is swallowed. I think were talking about the same Aspen.
This is the aspen I use, which I believe quite a few people use:

Re: Types of Aspen Bedding
If you want a nice cheap solution to bedding that looks decent, go buy a large bag of organic cypress mulch at home depot or Lowes. It runs about 4 dollars for like 20 pounds. Make sure you grab the stuff that says 100% organic on it.
Re: Types of Aspen Bedding
Yeah I use the small animal aspen bedding. Works fine for me! I am thinking about getting a big bag of the shredded aspen though.

Yea but it's not going to get swallowed so it will do fine. I want to switch to the little fine chips, but i'm not sure how that would hold my rufous burrows.

Re: Types of Aspen Bedding
Just a FYI
Ive found many bags of Cypress mulch, Ive called manufacturers and all have said they blend 20% to 15% pine with it. The few people who dont do this and selll Pure 100% cypress will label it so.
Re: Types of Aspen Bedding
i et the large bales of the aspen ( it a compressed bag it alike pine shaving ) and had no problems with it. but then again I got 15 snakes I change every 2 weeks( even if hey not messed) and spot clean daily. I go though at least 1 bale a month and mine runs about 23 bucks a bale. ( pine runs between 8-12 bucks depends were I get it ) the onlyo ther aspen beddign I seen was the shatter type ( looks like large splinters) and it higher cost but my snakes love to burrow in since it won't pack as tight at shavings..

Yea it's perfectly fine, my snake I have it on loves it, and the snakes previous to him that have had that type of bedding love it. Other then that I use cypress mulch made by t-rex(double milled) for my anaconda. I would never buy cypress mulch from like lowes or wal-mart though.
