Do your feed your snakes in a separate tub..

Or their cage?

I fed her once in her cage...it was fine but I am wondering if it would be advisable to move her to a tub to feed? Does it make a difference? Pros and cons?

At the store we feed them in tubs in the back room. It seems to work out well as we house many different snakes(of the same species) in a cage. It's not really ideal for them but that's what the managers want. Our reptile room is only so big.

I'd like her to associate my hand with gentle handling and not food so I think I will be doing the tub. I've heard this was better so they don't associate your hand in your cage with a food item.

i feed all of mine in thier tubs/tanks,i used to use a seperate feeding box,,but i honestly havent had any issues feeding in the enclosure,when you got over 10-15 snakes,including a 9ft,moving them to seperate feeding containers is just to much

Pro of feeding in the enclosure:

Reduces the stress prior to feeding time.

Reduces the chances of getting hit by an animal in feeding mode.

Con of feeding outside the enclosure:

Moving a snake in feeding more will get you tagged sooner or later.

Moving a BP out of his cage for feeding can cause enough stress in some individual to lead to a refusal.

I feed all of mine inside their enclosures.

I have found that half of the time when moving them to another tub to feed they will refuse to eat, it can stress them out a little. I havent had any problems feeding in thier tubs.

Just feed them inside.

More chance of being bitten feeding them outside the enclosure.
They won't associate you with food.

That's a good list of pros for feeding in the enclosure, which has been working out very well for me. :gj: So far I haven't had any issues, and I'm on my third or fourth feeding now. I'll scent the room for a bit, like my sister advised, and I'll see my boa poking about looking for the mouse. Once it's in there, BAM! It's gone and my snake's feeding. But if I need to spot-clean, or when it's time to take him out, he'll nose around some more and when he figures out it's me, he'll actually retreat immediately.

Just don't hold a white, crumpled-up piece of paper towel in there for too long while cleaning something; he seemed to have too much of an interest in that, lol, though I imagine he would have eventually figured out that the little white blur was not a mouse, and the heat he was sensing was actually me.

in there tubs is how I do it dont like to move them around and risk stress or regurgitation

I've had my girl for a month now and majority of people on here told me to feed her in her enclosure. I haven't had a problem yet! She can smell the difference of a mouse and your hand. Unless of course you have rodent scent on your hands :O But I find it way easier :)

I feed both of my snakes in seperate enclosure. It works out great for me and great for other people, then for other people feeding in the same enclosure works for them also. It all depends on who you ask. The reason I prefer to feed outside her normal tank is because I keep her on cypress mulch and I don't want to risk any of that messing with her.
