Is your corn a hider?

I think mine is hiding from my evil cats. Jewel thinks that she is lunch meat. She has this annoying habit of tapping on the glass with her paws. I swear if she could open the cage she would jump in and have at it.

I wish I could have it on the higher dresser but the cord for the light won't reach and dangling things are dangerous to cats. They want to paw at it and I am afraid they may knock the light off.

Is my snake just trying to get used to her new environment? Does yours move around in the cage a lot or do they like to stay in the hide or under the substrate?

If she constantly sees your cat, she may be hiding from your cat, some snakes are like that. I say get rid of the cats, or keep them in a seperate room, or outside. lol. Thats my opinion though as I don't really like dogs or cats.

Mine hide. I changed two to paper towels and they still hid. My little escapee who for now is in a tank hides in the ecoearth and under his water dish:)

Zipper hides until he is hungry. He comes out every evening also and slithers around, drinks, and such, but then goes back into his hide. But if he is hungry we will stay out and wait, or push at his screen. He is a huge piggy and eats every saturday no matter what.

When we had our corn in a glass tank, he didn't really seem to care about the cat at all. Now we've got our Mexican black kingsnake in the tank and she doesn't care too much either. She'll cruise around the cage a little and if the cat starts staring at her she just stares right back.

If a corn, or really any snake, is young and small it will hide. :) That's the way they avoid being eaten in the wild until they're big enough to move and defend themselves better.

My corns show this well: the tiny worm I'm 'snake sitting' hides all the time. My two younger corns still like to hide, though they will come out more often now. And my three adult corns are always out just laying around in plain view or cruising the cages. The only time they hide is when they're in shed (which is my hint). :)

Also, to the OP: you could move that tank higher if you got rid of the light. Corns don't really need lights, and do just fine with one UTH on a thermostat and a house/room that doesn't fall below 69. :) Just make sure, as with all tanks, that the back and sides are covered and insulated and the screen top is foil treated or plexiglass covered (though the openings left can be larger than for ball pythons).

I have a BP in a tank that is unfortunately low to the ground. She started striking at the glass when my cat walked by, so I cover the tank with a towel.

So yeah, maybe it is the cat. I don't know anything about corns though.

Ditto to what they all said. The younger ones hide more, the older ones don't. I have a 12 year old that hides when he wants, but cruises the cage willy-nilly. He's driving me crazy right now because he's refusing to eat, but that's also normal.

Mine are all babies. One looks older then the other but they were just a small differance when I got it now its 3x the size of the other one. I think it has something to do with feeding one rats longer then the other.Mine will cruise the tank when hunting. Two are in large plastic boxes and one is in a tank. My 2 older ones refused to eat yesterday and acted like a rattler and kept tagging me and thier food. They tend to shed together so I'm sure that's all it is as they can quite a handfull when shedding.

I hear that!! My Amel boy STILL won't eat, he's lost a fair amount of weight (a little at a time) so far and just has no interest in food. He's driving me nuts, since he's my favorite, and since there's no food intake there's no fecals to collect and take in for testing. SIGH!
