Hmm-a weird clicking sounds when she ate today.

Hey everyone,
Today I fed my 9 month old Ball two mice in a row, as usual.
Normal size (probably biggest size white mice they carry),
and i noticed a clicking sound...like a faint click (1...2..3...)..click (1...2...3) click as she was swallowing the mice. She also breathed out heavy twice, which she's never done before. I usually HEAR nothing, but today was interesting,
Can anyone help with advice or commentary?
It was weird.

Maybe a bit of aspen got caught in her mouth?

When my ball starting making cracking/clicking noises she had an upper RI...keep on an eye on your her, sick snakes are no fun :oops:

Sounds like the beginnings of an upper RI to me as well. The "crackling" you hear is actually mucus that is rasping as it breaths and swallows. A visit to your vet in the NEAR future is definitely in your pet's best interest!

I agree with the other two posts that it is probably the onset of an URI. A trip to the vet would probably be in best interest to you both, but in the meantime I would recommend bumping temps a little as well as the humidity. Try to raise the ambient temps 3-5 degrees and the humidity by 10% or so. If it continues or get worse then you need to get it to a vet. Todd

I'm not trying to be critical here, but this is EXACTLY why potential herp owners need to be educated more thoroughly when it comes to owning these pets. This is research that should have been done BEFORE you brought your snake home to ensure you had the resources available in close proximity in case your snake suffered an injury or ailment.
Check the list of Vets here on this forum and hopefully you can find one close enough to you that will be able to help. Also start looking in your phone book. Call your local vet and see if they actually care for herps. If not, ask them if they know a vet in your area who does. Many times a "regular" vet will know of someone who is qualified to care for snakes and other reptiles.

Check your phonebook for a list of vets...most that specialize will have it listed. If not, just call and ask. You could also search on google's business addresses...it will come up with a list with their location, number and website :gj:
