    Cardboard Hides
How come yesterday I read that cardboard hides are bad? I use one that has no tape or anything and my boy loves it, so why are they a problem?

    Hi,

They don't tend to stand up to snake pee very well and are hard to keep clean.

I've tried them a time or two and they get yucky quite quickly - since you can't wash them you end up replacing them so often it becomes a constant chore to find replacements.

Plastic bowls on the other hand can simply be washed and you don't need to worry about it.

Because they can absorb urine and feces and then become home to many bacteria which can lead to things like scale rot. Typically you want to be able to scrub anything thoroughly that is in your snakes tank.

o ok but as long as they are replaced regularly its ok...?

I was just wondering cuz I'm only using it until I go and pick up a bowl, but read that they are bad. I was just wondering if there were some unknown reasons I wasn't aware of.

They also will absorb the water in the air, thus making your humidity lower.

They are OK temporarily, but you shouldn't rely on it.
