Acclimating BP to a higher temp

Hello again,

I posted the other day about a BP my husband I are picking up tomorrow night. We have our tank set up with the proper temps (wamer 90 degree side, and a cooler side), humidity is 55%, everything is ready. The BP though, is coming from a much different environment. When I met him Tuesday, it was pretty cold, no heat source other than the heat rock and a tiny water bowl, and the screen lid was exposed so what little heat he was getting was escaping.

Will to be too large of a shock to introduce him to our tank with higher (but proper) temps? Is this an instance where we should lower a hair and work him up? Or will he be fine as is?

I think he should be fine. From experience cold makes them move slower, and that heat rock is probably hotter than you think. He will love his new cage, and he should adapt very well to it. If he is too hot, some will soak in their water bowl.

I had a friend loose their bp in a car overnight. The temps got down to 35 degrees, and they didn't find him until the next morning. The first thing I told her to do was to get him warm. We heated up a water bottle until she could get him home. I thought he was dead. There was very little movement. In 24 hrs he made a complete turnaround and is doing fine now.

I am not a snake vet though, so if I am wrong someone will chime in. Congrats on the new one. You and your hubby will love him!!

No they will have no problems adjusting. If anything, he will thank you (that is, if he could)

I would say 90* is still a bit low. I would try to shoot for around 93*

Thank you. The temp is now 93 on the warm side, and I can probably get it up to 95 with a little more foil over the UTH. (the tank is on a cabinet stand which is open on the bottom) We hope he enjoys his new, more appropriate home too!

Sorry, I just re-read your post and realized you did mention 93, not 95. So it's perfect now!
