Jarred tegu and monitor food?

Today when I when to petsmart I saw a jar of jelly like cubed food. I was just ondering if anyone used it. I'm going away for a week in the summer and it would be good just to give the house sitter to keep things easy.

I haven't heard of the brand which you are speaking about, but in general, the premade/cubed/gelled food sucks. I wouldn't feed it to my Tegu.

IMO, the best thing to do would be to make him several meals a few days in advance. That way, when you go away, all the "sitter" has to do is defrost it. You can include fruit, rodents, veggies, eggs, etc. In his "lunch pack".

In other words, junkjunkjunkjunk.

Just make a large batch of whatever you're using, be it ground turkey, eggs, whatever, and then get some ice cube trays and freeze it.

Pop out the ice cubes of the food, and put them in a freezer bag. All the person has to do is take out one or two, thaw it and give it to the monitor.

That 20L isn't going to last very long at all and you're more likely to dry out the poor guy in such a small enclosure.

The reptile bulbs are also crap. Go to WalMart or Home Depot and get a flood bulb. They have 45 watt ones that MANY monitor keepers use and those can EASILY attain a 130-140 degree hot spot(which the monitor NEEDS). 100 degrees ain't gonna cut it. He'll act lethargic, won't want to eat, and will be a sick baby.

Potting soil or a decomposed granite mixture with some sand would have been a better option for substrate too.

It's sad what I know about these guys and I don't even have one, LOL!

Without the dimmer the hot spot got to 116.5. The baby is just a little hatchling so I'm sure it'll be fine until I build it's large encloser. Many care sheets say that they need only a 10 g as a hatchling so it should be good for a bit. I have a glass lid on it.
