Can Someone Please Clarify?
When I originally got this snake, I was told by the girl I got it from that it was a Red Tail. Since bringing it home, I have had several people tell me it's not a Red Tail. can anyone please clarify this for me with absolute sureness just what origin this pet is? Some have even told me it was a pastel Red Tail but I'm not even sure that's true.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BCI? I'm still learning the terminology of the Boas. I'm better with the Ball Pythons though...

"he"? Now, my curiosity is really piqued. What is the difference between a "true" Redtail and what I have? Man, I have SO much to learn about Boas! Makes me feel totally stupid all over again!!!! :weirdface
Re: Can Someone Please Clarify?
A lot of the confusion has to do with the way people use the common name "Red Tail Boa". Some folks (especially pet shops, who want to make their boas look like something special so they can sell lots of them for lots of money) call every single variety of Boa constrictor a "red tail". Others refer to Boa constrictor constrictor from South America into southern Central America (IIRC) as "true red tails", while Boa constrictor imperator from Central America gets called "BCI". Since the Central American BCI has been more common in the pet trade and easier to breed, that's what you'll find in more pet shops. (And what yours looks like)
~Bruce, who knows just enough about Boa constrictor localities and morphs to be very easily confused!
Re: Can Someone Please Clarify?
guyanan and suriname are considered the true red tails, boa constrictor constrictor. However, colombian boas are commonly called "colombian red tails".
